AfD voting strength varies by religious affiliation in Germany

A new INSA poll conducted in August reveals significant correlations between religious affiliation and voting preferences in Germany. The data suggests that the Alternative for Germany (AfD) would reach 30 percent nationwide if Muslim voters were excluded from the results. Currently, the AfD stands at 29 percent in the INSA survey.

The AfD is the strongest party among Christian voters and those with no religious affiliation, securing 32 percent among Protestant voters and 29 percent among Catholics and non-religious individuals. In contrast, the AfD performs significantly lower among the Muslim population, receiving only 11 percent of the vote.

Among Muslim voters, the SPD is the leading party with 26 percent, followed by Die Linke at 23 percent and the CDU at 22 percent. The poll highlights a distinct political divide, with Muslim voters leaning toward left-wing parties while Christian demographics show stronger support for the AfD.
