AfD youth organization reveals internal divisions at Magdeburg congress

The youth organization of the AfD, now known as Generation Deutschland (GD), held a federal congress in Magdeburg ahead of the Saxony-Anhalt state elections. The event featured a celebratory reception for top candidate Ulrich Siegmund but also revealed significant internal divisions regarding economic policy.

A central debate emerged concerning the Euro. GD leader Jean-Pascal Hohm initially proposed a position suggesting that while the Euro strengthened the internal market, it possessed structural flaws. Hohm expressed his personal conviction that Germany should not exit the Euro, citing the seamless lifestyle of young people who benefit from borderless travel and a single currency. However, due to strong resistance from within the youth organization, Hohm was forced to withdraw the motion.

The congress was also marked by aggressive rhetoric and discussions on “remigration.” Participants utilized polarizing language regarding the current German state and its cultural direction. Despite the political tension, the event did not face significant counter-demonstrations compared to previous GD gatherings.
