Affenberg Salem welcomes tenth Barbary macaque baby of the season

Affenberg Salem has welcomed its tenth Barbary macaque baby of the season, a late arrival named Augustus. Born on August 1, Augustus is the second offspring of his ten-year-old mother, Ida. Park manager Dr. Roland Hilgartner noted that while births typically occur in spring or early summer to maximize food availability and growth time, this late birth is healthy and the infant has been well-integrated into the group.

In addition to the new arrival, the park is preparing for the seasonal migration of nearly 100 young storks. These birds are currently practicing thermic flight techniques before beginning their journey to wintering grounds in Spain and Africa. As part of a collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Behavioral Biology, 24 of these storks have been fitted with transmitters to monitor their movements.
