Affluent investors increase cryptocurrency holdings across major markets
A survey by CoinShares reveals that affluent investors are increasingly integrating digital assets into their long-term investment portfolios. Across seven major markets—the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, and Switzerland—ownership of cryptocurrencies ranges from 54% to 70%.
Despite market volatility, there is a strong trend toward increasing exposure. In the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany, 91% of current holders intend to increase their digital asset holdings in 2026. The average allocation to cryptocurrencies remains around 10% of total portfolios.
Key findings indicate that Bitcoin is the most widely held asset, with an average ownership rate of 80% among digital-asset investors. Motivations for investing are primarily driven by long-term appreciation and portfolio diversification, with only 9% of respondents citing speculation as a primary driver. However, a significant knowledge gap remains, as 88% of respondents admitted they lack sufficient expertise to invest in digital assets with full confidence.
