Afghan man charged with rape and sexual assault in Manchester

Abdullah Shinwari, a 24-year-old Afghan man, has been charged with multiple offenses following an alleged attack on a 17-year-old girl in Manchester city center. The charges include two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, non-fatal strangulation, and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of July 14. Shinwari is scheduled to appear before the Manchester Crown Court. Greater Manchester Police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

In response to the incident, Manchester City Council has pledged to improve local security measures, including increased police presence, better lighting, and enhanced CCTV coverage in the area.
