Afghan migrants in Türkiye raise residency and consular concerns
Representatives of Afghan migrants living in Ankara, Türkiye, met with a delegation from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss ongoing challenges. The migrants highlighted several critical issues, including high costs for renewing residence permits, visa restrictions for sick individuals, and difficulties obtaining essential civil and health documents.
Additional concerns raised during the meeting included problems within migrant camps, the detention of Afghans who possess valid residency documents, and high air travel costs. To address these issues, migrant representatives called for the activation of an Afghan migrant affairs attaché office in Türkiye to better facilitate the handling of their concerns.
Saniullah Farahmand, the ambassador to Türkiye, stated that the Afghan Embassy would continue efforts to address these problems within its capacity. Saeed Ahmad Banuri, representing the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, assured participants that their complaints would be documented and conveyed to the relevant authorities in both Afghanistan and Türkiye to seek solutions.
