Afghan suspect charged in murder of British volunteer in Kifisia, Greece

Greek police have charged a 26‑year‑old Afghan man with the murder of his British wife, Eliza Beth Ross, a 38‑year‑old volunteer for Christian and humanitarian organisations. Ross’s body was discovered on 18 July inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in the Kifisia suburb of Athens.

According to statements from the bride’s family, they had opposed the marriage from the start. Security‑camera footage shows the suspect leaving his apartment with a suitcase and backpack, heading to the location where the body was later found, and returning shortly afterwards without the luggage. The suspect told investigators he found Ross dead in the bathroom, but prosecutors say he later used her bank cards and mobile phone to withdraw €2,550 and send messages, before handing the cash and a new phone over to authorities. The couple had a child and had founded the refugee‑support charity Love Every Nation Athens. The case has not yet gone to trial.
