Afghan women face isolation under Taliban rule, journalist warns

Afghan journalist Zara Zoya is raising alarms regarding the isolation and systemic oppression of women in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Speaking from London, Zoya describes the chaos and terror experienced during the fall of Kabul on August 15, 2021, an anniversary she describes as the day she lost her country.

Zoya highlights that the Taliban's extreme interpretation of Islamic law has excluded women from many sectors of life. Afghanistan remains the only country where girls are prohibited from receiving education beyond the primary school level. Through her network, Rukhshana Media, Zoya collects testimonies from women who report living in isolation, confined within their homes.

She emphasizes that Afghan women are fighting for their rights with limited resources and expresses a sense that the international community has abandoned them.
