Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of backing fighters killed in Nuristan clashes
Afghanistan's Ministry of Defence has accused Pakistan of involvement in a cross-border incursion in the Nuristan province. According to the Taliban government, Afghan forces killed 28 fighters and captured 32 others during clashes in the Kamdesh district. The ministry alleged that the group included Islamic State members and former Afghan government security personnel who were reportedly recruited and trained by Pakistani intelligence services with promises of asylum and employment.
Pakistan's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has categorically rejected these allegations, describing them as “frivolous, baseless and devoid of any truth.” Islamabad denied any involvement of its security or intelligence agencies in the Nuristan clashes, stating that no credible evidence—such as forensic data, communication records, or verified identities—has been provided to support the claims. Pakistan also dismissed a social media video used as purported evidence, characterizing it as a staged recording.
Pakistan has urged the Afghan Taliban authorities to take verifiable action against terrorist organizations operating from Afghan territory and to fulfill commitments that Afghan soil will not be used for terrorism against Pakistan or other nations. This escalation follows recent tensions, including Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan targeting sites allegedly used for drone attacks.
