Afghanistan announces T20I squad for series against India

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced a 15-member squad for an upcoming three-match T20I series against India. Although designated as a home series for Afghanistan, all matches will be held at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi from September 13 to 17, 2026.

Ibrahim Zadran has been named captain, marking his first full-time assignment in the T20I format. The squad features the return of fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq, who is recovering from a right shoulder stress fracture that caused him to miss the 2026 T20 World Cup. Other notable inclusions and returns include veteran all-rounder Gulbadin Naib and uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Noor Rahman.

The roster maintains a strong core of experienced players, including Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Azmatullah Omarzai. ACB CEO Naseeb Khan stated that the board focused on selecting a well-balanced squad and noted that hosting a major cricketing nation reflects the progress of Afghan cricket.
