Afghanistan: Humanitarian crisis deepens on fifth anniversary of Taliban rule
Marking the fifth anniversary of the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan, humanitarian organizations and civil society groups are highlighting a deepening crisis. Kindernothilfe reports that nearly 3.7 million children in the country are currently facing acute malnutrition.
Katrin Weidemann, CEO of Kindernothilfe, emphasized that the ongoing instability, hunger, and lack of medical care are jeopardizing the development of an entire generation. The organization is calling for sustained international support to ensure children have access to food, healthcare, and protection from violence.
Simultaneously, a coalition of civil society organizations, diplomats, and diaspora members is demanding that the international community stop the creeping recognition of the Taliban regime. The coalition’s platform includes calls to end gender apartheid, hold the Taliban accountable, and support democratic forces and civil society organizations within Afghanistan.
