Afghanistan security and regional relations face scrutiny

Diplomatic and social discussions regarding Afghanistan's stability and regional relations are intensifying. In Islamabad, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani, met with Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar to discuss regional security developments and their implications for Pakistan’s peace and stability.

At a symposium hosted by the University of Peshawar, experts and officials called for a shift from conflict-centered approaches toward dialogue, economic cooperation, and regional connectivity to improve Pakistan-Afghanistan ties.

Separately, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai addressed the current state of the country in an interview. While Karzai praised the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) for maintaining security, he expressed significant concerns regarding the future. He highlighted the suspension of girls’ education and restrictions on women’s participation in the workforce as major challenges to a vibrant society. Karzai emphasized the need for a political solution where all Afghans feel a sense of belonging, stating, “We need a country for everyone.”
