Afghanistan signs $6.68 million in disaster response agreements
The Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) has signed 18 memorandums of understanding (MoU) with domestic and international partners. These agreements, totaling approximately $6,677,619, aim to strengthen the country's capacity for disaster prevention, response, and recovery.
The initiatives focus on mitigating natural hazard risks, providing emergency assistance to affected populations, and enhancing long-term support programs for vulnerable communities. Afghanistan remains one of the world's most disaster-prone nations, frequently facing heavy rains, flash floods, landslides, earthquakes, droughts, and avalanches.
Official data indicates that over the past year, natural disasters such as storms, earthquakes, and floods have resulted in 769 deaths and 1,634 injuries, affecting 44,918 households. Recent severe weather, including flash floods in Nuristan province, has caused significant casualties and destruction of infrastructure.
