Afghanistan climbs to seventh in ICC ODI rankings after tri-series win

Afghanistan has reached seventh place in the ICC men’s ODI team rankings, matching its highest-ever position in the format. This ascent follows the team’s victory in a tri-series held in the UAE, where they defeated Zimbabwe by seven wickets in the final at Sharjah.

In the final, Afghanistan’s bowling attack restricted Zimbabwe to 169 runs, led by Rashid Khan’s three wickets. Ibrahim Zadran anchored the subsequent chase with an unbeaten 70 runs to secure the title. Rashid Khan was named player of the series, while Zadran received player of the match honors.

The ranking shift saw Afghanistan overtake England, which dropped to eighth place following consecutive losses to Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka moved up to sixth position in the updated standings. At the top of the rankings, India remains the leading team.
