The American Film Institute has announced new additions to the 40th annual AFI Fest, scheduled to take place from October 21-25 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
Two major red carpet premieres were confirmed: Peter Farrelly’s ‘I Play Rocky,’ which depicts Sylvester Stallone’s journey to create the 1976 film, and Brad Bird’s animated Netflix project ‘Ray Gunn,’ featuring the voices of Scarlett Johansson and Sam Rockwell.
The festival’s Special Screenings section will feature a diverse lineup, including works by Ava DuVernay, Diego Luna, Pedro Almodovar, and Martin McDonagh. Other notable titles include ‘Behemoth!’ starring Pedro Pascal and ‘Bunker’ starring Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller will serve as guest artistic directors. The event is set to open with the U.S. premiere of ‘Wildwood’ and conclude with ‘Being Heumann’ by Sian Heder.
