AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler praises Pope Leo’s new encyclical

AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler has expressed strong support for Pope Leo’s encyclical, ‘Magnifica Humanitas,’ describing its significance as ‘absolutely huge.’ Shuler noted that the document’s themes closely align with the goals of the trade union movement.

Representing the AFL-CIO, the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas, and the International Trade Union Confederation, Shuler participated in the ‘Fratelli Tutti: North-South socio-environmental dialogue’ held at the Vatican from September 11-13. She emphasized the importance of social dialogue and listening as essential tools for advancing the common good and cultivating justice.

During the Vatican encounter, discussions also addressed economic transformations and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence. Shuler indicated that the encyclical reflects labor priorities to ensure that AI development remains centered on the needs of workers and humanity.
