AFL locks in South Australia, Western Australia State of Origin fixtures through 2029
The Australian Football League has confirmed a three‑year State of Origin schedule, bringing South Australia back to the competition for the first time since 1999. Western Australia will host South Australia at Perth’s Optus Stadium in 2027, South Australia will host Victoria at Adelaide Oval in 2028, and Western Australia will face Victoria again at Optus Stadium in 2029.
Victoria will not host the marquee match for at least the next three seasons, and the league said the certainty of the schedule allows fans and clubs to “embrace the state rivalry”. AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon highlighted the tradition and passion of State football, thanking the Western Australian and South Australian premiers for their support.
