AFL star Jake Stringer aids firefighters in South Kingsville blaze

GWS Giants forward Jake Stringer, 32, was driving through Melbourne’s south‑west suburb of South Kingsville when he saw a single‑storey weatherboard house fully alight. He stopped his car, alerted neighbours and helped evacuate a nearby kindergarten that housed about 40 children and staff. Footscray senior station officer Ben Morris praised the quick action that prevented further danger to the kindergarten and surrounding homes.

Almost 40 firefighters responded, fighting the fire with multiple hoselines despite limited water supply and live power lines. The house was destroyed, but no injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Stringer, who is in the final year of his contract with the Giants, has not confirmed whether he will receive an extension.
