AFLW attendance grows through double-header matches

AFLW attendances have increased by more than 50 per cent compared to the same stage last season, a growth largely attributed to the use of double-headers in tier one stadiums. These events have drawn crowds as large as 20,000.

There is potential for an additional double-header during the preliminary final weekend. If the Brisbane Lions defeat Sydney in the men’s qualifying final, the AFL may move a women’s game involving Brisbane or Adelaide to the Gabba to play before the men’s preliminary final.

Former Essendon president David Barham, who previously advocated for double-headers in the AFLW, emphasized that crowd presence is a critical factor for the sport’s growth and success.
