Afonso Pena International Airport to receive third runway

Afonso Pena International Airport in São José dos Pinhais, near Curitiba, has received an installation license to construct a third runway, ending a wait of more than 30 years. The environmental authorization was issued by the Paraná State Government through the Instituto Água e Terra (IAT).

The new runway is planned to be 3,000 meters long and 45 meters wide. This expansion is intended to increase the airport's operational capacity, allowing large aircraft to take off with higher fuel loads. This is expected to facilitate direct long-distance flights to destinations in Europe and the United States, as well as improve cargo logistics for the region's industrial sector.

The concessionaire, Motiva, estimates an investment of R$ 800 million for the project, which is expected to generate approximately 1,000 jobs. The license includes several environmental requirements, such as groundwater monitoring, fauna monitoring, and the recovery of degraded areas, to mitigate the impact of the construction.
