Afreximbank and South Africa’s IDC seal $8 billion industrial finance pact
The African Export‑Import Bank (Afreximbank) and South Africa’s Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) signed a strategic memorandum of understanding that creates an $8 billion financing envelope for industrial development, stronger regional value chains and increased intra‑African trade. The partnership will combine Afreximbank’s trade‑finance capabilities with the IDC’s local expertise, focusing on sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, mining, renewable energy and infrastructure. Digital trade platforms—including the Pan‑African Payment and Settlement System, MANSA and the Africa Trade Gateway—will be deployed to improve cross‑border payments and trade efficiency.
Separately, the IDC announced an invitation for expressions of interest from a strategic equity partner to fund and operate Project Lux‑Isle, an ultra‑luxury resort on Caldeira and Nejovo islands off northern Mozambique. The 60‑room, five‑star development spans 13.5 ha and 6.74 ha respectively, and the IDC seeks a partner to provide capital, operational expertise and market positioning, with submissions due by 14 August 2026.
