Afreximbank raises $1.5 bn bond and backs $190 m Zimbabwe financing

The African Export‑Import Bank (Afreximbank) completed its largest ever dollar bond issuance, raising $1.5 billion across two $750 million tranches. The 5.5‑year tranche yields 6.25% and matures in January 2032; the 10‑year tranche yields 7.125% and matures in July 2036. Investor demand reached $3.8 billion, more than 2.5 times the amount offered, allowing tighter pricing. Proceeds are earmarked for trade, industrialisation and growth projects across Africa.

Separately, Afreximbank signed a $190 million financing package with CBZ Bank Limited to support Zimbabwe’s trade, SME and power sectors. The deal includes a $150 million revolving trade‑finance facility and a $20 million dual‑tranche SME facility, complemented by capacity‑building services. The agreement was signed in El Alamein, Egypt, by Afreximbank Executive Vice President Haytham Elmaayergi and CBZ Managing Director Valeta Mthimkhulu. Both initiatives aim to close Africa’s trade‑finance gap and boost export‑oriented businesses.
