Africa Aquatics Zone III Swimming Championships begin in Kampala

The 11th Africa Aquatics Zone III Swimming Championships have commenced at the Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU), featuring athletes from East and Central Africa, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Somalia.

Uganda has seen early success in the competition, particularly in relay and individual events. Notable performances include Marie Mbanga Zara winning the girls’ 15-and-over 400-metre individual medley and Mushira Nabatanzi winning the girls’ 12-and-under 50m breaststroke. In the boys' categories, Ibrahim Lule secured a victory in the 12-and-under 50m breaststroke.

Ahead of the competition, Tanzania’s National Sports Council (NSC) urged its swimmers to focus on achieving personal best times to meet international standards rather than focusing solely on defeating regional rivals. NSC senior officer Charles Maguzu encouraged the squad to aim for long-term goals, such as the World Aquatics Championships.
