Africa Business Investment Summit targets $500 million in capital commitments
The Africa Business Investment Summit (ABIS) 2026 is scheduled to take place on August 27 and 28 at MGM National Harbor, near Washington, D.C. The summit aims to shift the economic relationship between the United States and African nations from a model of development assistance to one focused on risk-adjusted returns.
Organizers have presented a $4 billion pipeline of African investment opportunities spanning sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, mining, and maritime. While the total pipeline is substantial, the summit has set a specific goal of securing at least $500 million in structured capital commitments between African project originators and U.S. institutional and private investors.
Ashim Morton, president of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, noted the ambition to move beyond discussions of potential toward executed transactions. The summit seeks to frame African developmental needs, such as electricity shortfalls and transportation networks, as viable commercial opportunities for global capital.
