Africa digital payments economy projected to reach US$1.5 trillion by 2030
Africa is experiencing rapid growth in its digital financial ecosystem, with the digital payments economy projected to reach US$1.5 trillion by 2030. This evolution is driven by the need for alternatives to traditional banking, high remittance costs, and the use of cryptocurrencies for savings, inflation hedging, and cross-border trade.
To support this transition, the FDX by GITEX platform has been introduced to modernize critical financial infrastructure and accelerate financial inclusion. The platform aims to connect capital, policy, and digital innovation to expand economic opportunities across the continent.
These developments are highlighted within the context of GITEX NIGERIA, West Africa’s largest technology, AI, and startup exhibition. Scheduled to take place in Abuja and Lagos from August 31 to September 3, 2026, the event is held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and supported by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
