Africa faces massive affordable housing shortage through 2030

Africa is facing a significant housing shortage, with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) estimating a current shortfall of at least 51 million units. This deficit is projected to reach 130 million units by 2030 as the continent's urban population is expected to hit 60% by that same year.

Addressing this demand requires navigating complex challenges, including high land costs, construction expenses, and limited mortgage access. The IFC also estimates a housing finance gap of approximately $1.4 trillion. Successful development in this sector will likely require innovative financing, efficient construction methods, and strategic partnerships between governments, developers, and investors.
