Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 focuses on agricultural resilience

The Africa Food Systems Forum 2026, held in Kigali, Rwanda, brought together governments, businesses, and research institutions to discuss investing in agri-food systems to nourish nations and build resilience.

During the forum, ProVeg International, ProVeg Nigeria, and ProVeg South Africa hosted a culinary event to highlight the importance of underutilized indigenous crops. The initiative aimed to raise awareness of traditional crops as a means to combat biodiversity loss and create more sustainable, plant-rich food systems.

Additionally, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT utilized the forum to launch its 2026-2030 Africa Strategy. The organization focused on connecting scientific evidence with finance and policy to scale agricultural innovations, including regenerative agriculture, climate finance, and youth-led innovation. The event also marked the 30th anniversary of the Pan-African Partnership for Agricultural Research and Development (PABRA).
