Africa World Airlines adds Embraer E190 to expand regional fleet

Africa World Airlines (AWA) has added a 102-seater Embraer E190 aircraft to its fleet to enhance domestic and regional connectivity across Ghana and West Africa. The aircraft was unveiled at Accra International Airport as the first of several planned acquisitions intended to expand the airline's capacity over the coming year.

Founder and Chairman Togbe Afede XIV noted that the expansion aligns with the airline's vision to support African development. While celebrating the milestone, he highlighted significant industry challenges, including high costs for imported aviation inputs, foreign-exchange pressures, limited passenger numbers, and restricted airport operating hours.

The arrival follows the recent relaunch of the Accra–Abidjan–Accra route. Government officials expressed support for the expansion, with the Minister of Transport noting that recent decisions to waive import duties on parts for domestic airlines should help lower operating costs and potentially make air travel more accessible to the public.
