African agricultural sectors adopt digital tools and insurance to boost stability

In Cameroon, the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC) held a forum in Limbe to explore how digital tools can mitigate post-harvest losses and improve agricultural productivity. The initiative addressed challenges such as inadequate transport, poor storage, and climate pressures, which the FAO notes can cause losses of up to 40% for certain crops like fruits and vegetables. Discussions focused on precision agriculture, drones, digital marketplaces, and smart supply chain management to enhance food security.

In Senegal, Agropole Centre and the Compagnie nationale d’assurance agricole du Sénégal (CNAAS) launched an agricultural insurance training program in Fatick. The initiative aims to educate leaders of peasant organizations to secure production and income across the Diourbel, Fatick, Kaffrine, and Kaolack regions. Supported by a 190 million CFA franc commitment from the African Development Bank, the program will develop specialized insurance products for value chains including peanuts, salt, and dry cereals like millet and maize.
