African aviation market shows capacity growth in September 2026

The African aviation market saw expansion in September 2026, with scheduled airline capacity increasing 9.4% year-on-year to 25.8 million seats. International services represented 78% of this total capacity.

In Tunisia, Tunis–Carthage International Airport ranked as the 10th busiest airport in Africa by scheduled outbound seats, recording approximately 460,000 seats. While this marked a month-on-month decline from August, the airport saw an 8.2% increase in capacity compared to the previous year.

In the regional airline sector, South African carrier Airlink has developed a long-standing operational relationship with Brazilian manufacturer Embraer. Since 2001, Airlink has utilized Embraer aircraft, including the ERJ family and the E-Jet family, to connect markets that are too small for mainline narrowbody aircraft but too large for turboprops.
