African cinema initiatives focus on training emerging talent

Various initiatives are underway to support and train emerging cinematic talent across West Africa. In Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, actress and producer Siata Tchewôlô Traoré led a workshop during the second day of the Salon du Cinéma au Féminin. The session focused on acting, filming processes, and public speaking, covering topics such as body language, emotional work, and text analysis to prepare young professionals for the realities of the industry.

In Senegal, the second edition of Film Lab Africa is providing mentorship and production experience to young filmmakers. Supported by the British Council Senegal, the program aims to transform creative ideas into professional cinematic projects. Following a successful first edition that resulted in four short films, the initiative continues to focus on professionalizing local talent and promoting Senegalese narratives in both domestic and international film festivals.
