African cinema showcases: Mariano Bartolomeu and Sol de Carvalho
KinoYetu is hosting a film session dedicated to the work of Angolan director Mariano Bartolomeu at the Hotel Globo in Luanda. The event, titled “Mariano Bartolomeu: Um Cinema Limpo e Iluminado”, will showcase four films spanning 12 years of his career, including works produced in Cuba, the United States, and Angola.
The program includes “Un Lugar Limpio y Bien Iluminado”, a short film inspired by Ernest Hemingway; “Quem Faz Correr Quim?”, a co-production between Cuba and Angola; “The Plane”, which is set to have its first known public screening; and the telefilm “O Contador de Estórias”.
In Mozambique, the feature film “O Ancoradouro do Tempo”, directed by Sol de Carvalho and inspired by the writings of Mia Couto, will be screened on Mozambique Island from September 17 to 19. The screening celebrates the 208th anniversary of the territory's elevation to city status. Supported by Millennium bim and the Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, the film follows an inspector investigating a death in a colonial fortress and returns to its original filming location after touring international festivals.
