African creative industries seek cross-border partnerships and investment

Industry leaders and government officials are calling for enhanced cross-border partnerships and increased investment to transform Africa’s creative industries into sustainable economic drivers.

At the Africa Film Forum in Johannesburg, filmmakers emphasized the need to move beyond isolated markets. Humphrey Nabimanya, CEO of iKON Awards, stated that the continent must build partnerships to share resources and compete globally. Nicola Van Niekerk of MultiChoice Group added that stronger connections between markets and distribution networks are essential for local content to reach wider audiences.

In Nigeria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment are promoting the Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND) 2026, scheduled for November in Lagos. Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed highlighted cultural diplomacy as a tool to translate cultural assets, such as Nollywood and Afrobeats, into tangible economic benefits, job creation, and economic diversification.
