African cultural events highlight heritage and contemporary arts

Various cultural initiatives are spotlighting African heritage and contemporary creativity across the continent and its diaspora. In Berlin, the German Historical Museum is hosting an exhibition running until April 11, 2027, which examines colonial and Nazi violence through approximately 600 objects across nine thematic rooms. The exhibition explores historical debates regarding these two systems without equating them.

In Nigeria, the eleventh edition of ART X Lagos is scheduled for November 5 to 8. Under the theme “A New Chapter, A New Decade,” the fair will feature visual arts, cinema, and music, focusing on cultural legacies and the positioning of regional artists within the international market.

In Paris, the artist Cristina Lee will present “Benin’s Fever” at La Place Hip Hop on November 10, 2026. The concert aims to create cultural bridges between Benin and France by showcasing Beninese artists, including Cadie Nelva, Djo, and Five O, through a fusion of afrobeat, R&B, and hip-hop.
