African currencies show strength in August

Several African nations experienced currency appreciation in August, providing economic benefits such as reduced costs for imported goods like fuel, technology, and medicine.

In Uganda, the shilling has appreciated due to foreign currency inflows from exporters of raw materials and charitable organizations. As of August 20, the currency was trading between 3,715 and 3,725 shillings to the US dollar.

South Africa's rand also saw significant gains, reaching its highest level since the onset of conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. This appreciation was driven by rising gold prices and a depreciation of the US dollar. By late August, the rand was trading at approximately 15.9925 to the US dollar.
