Kampala hosts African defense summit on non-traditional security threats

In Kampala, Uganda, defense chiefs from numerous African nations are convening for an inaugural conference focused on Military Operations Other Than War (MOOTW). The four-day summit addresses non-traditional security challenges, including cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, climate change, pandemics, and transnational organized crime.

Simultaneously, diplomatic efforts continue regarding the security situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Congolese regional integration minister Floribert Anzuluni met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to discuss peace processes and the voluntary surrender protocol for FDLR groups. Additionally, Angolan representatives have reiterated support for Congolese sovereignty to ensure regional stability.

In Brazzaville, Congo, authorities and the French embassy celebrated the 20th anniversary of the city receiving the Legion of Honor, a distinction recognizing its historical role as the capital of Free France during World War II. Meanwhile, local cultural developments include the announcement of the 2027 edition of the Rentrée littéraire du Congo.
