African Development Bank and UNDP launch free AI training for public servants
The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the UNDP AI Hub for Sustainable Development, in partnership with Google and Apolitical, have launched a free artificial intelligence training program for public servants. The initiative, delivered through the Apolitical Government AI Campus, aims to strengthen AI capabilities within the public sector to assist with policymaking, healthcare, climate action, and organizational transformation.
The curriculum, developed by Stanford University Online and SDA Bocconi School of Management, covers AI fundamentals, leadership, and smarter procurement. The program is designed to be technology-agnostic, focusing on responsible AI adoption and risk management rather than specific platforms.
According to the AfDB, inclusive AI deployment could potentially add up to one trillion dollars to Africa’s gross domestic product by 2035. The training serves as a step toward implementing recommendations for inclusive economic transformation and addressing the current skills gap in government institutions. Applications for the program are open until September 30, 2026.
