African Energy Week highlights $10 billion in deals and massive investment needs
The 2026 African Energy Week (AEW) in Cape Town has highlighted significant investment opportunities and the urgent need for infrastructure development across the continent. Industry leaders and officials have already reported approximately $10 billion in deals signed during the event, including asset transfers in Angola and gas project announcements in Senegal and Nigeria.
OPEC’s Director of Energy Research, Abderrezak Benyoucef, stated that Africa requires at least $125 billion in refinery investments by 2050 to meet its needs. Currently, financing exceeding $16 billion is being sought for 15 specific oil, natural gas, and electricity projects presented to investors.
South African officials emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and responsible resource development to ensure energy security and affordable supplies amid global market disruptions. The event, which includes major global firms like ExxonMobil, Chevron, and TotalEnergies, aims to leverage energy resources to drive industrial growth and job creation.
