African fashion events gain momentum with new ambassadors and government support

Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) 2026 has announced the return of Princess Adesile as its Official Ambassador of Culture. A descendant of the Awujale of Ijebuland lineage, Adesile is recognized for bridging traditional Yoruba equestrian culture with contemporary fashion. She previously gained international attention for her participation in Nigeria’s Ojude Oba Festival.

In Nigeria, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has reaffirmed support for Nigeria Fashion Week 2026, which is set to take place in Abuja from October 2–4, 2026. During a meeting with organizers from Legendary Gold Limited and Qualitrend Group, the Minister emphasized the role of the creative industries in driving entrepreneurship, job creation, and economic growth. The event aims to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a leading destination for fashion and tourism through public-private partnerships.
