African financial sectors show strength in banking and currency rankings

Recent financial reports highlight significant economic milestones across the African continent. According to the World’s Top Performing Banks 2026 ranking published by Forbes in partnership with Statista, 25 African banks from 14 countries have been recognized among the 500 best-performing banks globally.

Egypt and Kenya lead the African contingent with four institutions each, followed by Zimbabwe with three. The ranking evaluates banks based on profitability, growth, capital resilience, and asset quality, rather than size alone. To qualify, institutions required at least $3 billion in assets and consistent financial reporting.

In terms of currency strength for September 2026, Tunisia, Libya, and Morocco rank as the top three nations in Africa. The Tunisian dinar is noted as the strongest, supported by central bank mechanisms aimed at economic stabilization. Libya’s currency strength is bolstered by hydrocarbon resources and increasing stability, while Morocco’s dirham maintains a strong reputation among investors as a regional economic driver.
