Marie Khone Faye launches ‘Building Resilience’ campaign in Dakar
In Dakar, Senegal, Marie Khone Faye, the First Lady of Senegal, officially launched the ‘Building Resilience’ campaign under the auspices of the Organisation des Premières Dames d’Afrique pour le Développement (OPDAD). The initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of women and girls facing climate change and conflict across the African continent.
President Bassirou Diomaye Faye attended the ceremony, emphasizing that gender equality is a pillar of the ‘Senegal 2050’ national transformation agenda. The campaign focuses on four key priorities: education, economic empowerment, health, and the rights of women and girls. The event also highlighted the diplomatic success of the OPDAD in securing a United Nations resolution to designate November 27 as the International Day for the Elimination of Child, Early, and Forced Marriage.
In addition to the continental campaign, various regional developments were noted, including efforts to empower rural women entrepreneurs in Benin and initiatives to increase female representation in decision-making roles in Niger.
