African football clubs prepare for 2026/27 CAF Interclub season

The upcoming 2026/27 CAF Interclub season marks a significant period for several prominent African football clubs seeking continental success. Major teams such as Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca are set to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup following their absence from the Champions League, aiming to restore their status and pursue the USD 4 million winner's prize.

Other clubs, including TP Mazembe, ASEC Mimosas, and Club Africain, will participate in the CAF Champions League. The season also features a new USD 100,000 solidarity payment for teams eliminated before the group stages of both the Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Several high-profile clubs remain without a major CAF trophy despite historical proximity to success. Sudan’s Al Hilal has reached two continental finals, while Tanzania’s Simba SC and Young Africans have also faced near-misses in recent years. The new season offers these clubs an opportunity to secure their first major continental titles.
