African football clubs prepare for CAF continental competitions

African football clubs are preparing for upcoming continental competitions following the conclusion of the Cecafa Club Championships and the CAF preliminary-round draws.

In the Cecafa Club Championship final, Rwanda's Rayon Sports secured the title with a 2-1 victory over Kenya's Gor Mahia at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. A 97th-minute goal by Daniel Muhoza decided the match after Gor Mahia had equalized via Shariff Musa. Gor Mahia now shifts focus to the CAF Champions League, where they are scheduled to face Egypt's Pyramids FC in the first preliminary round.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the preliminary-round pairings for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. Nigerian clubs have been assigned their paths: defending champions Rangers International will face Benin's Sobemap FC, while Rivers United will play Côte d’Ivoire’s FC San Pedro. In the Confederation Cup, El-Kanemi Warriors are set to face UDIB of Burkina Faso, and Shooting Stars have been granted an exemption to enter the competition in the second stage.
