African nations advance digital and AI strategies through UN and regional summits

Lesotho and various African stakeholders are advancing digital and artificial intelligence initiatives through international engagement and regional summits.

At the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Lesotho’s Minister of Information, Communications, Science, Technology and Innovation, Nthati Moorosi, participated in the UN Digital Cooperation Day 2026. The session, titled ‘Introducing the AI Strategy Blueprint: Turning National Ambition into Action’, focused on transitioning from national AI goals to practical implementation. Discussions emphasized the need for robust policies, skilled professionals, and reliable digital infrastructure to support responsible data use and economic development.

In Mauritius, the Women in Tech Africa Summit and Awards 2026 is scheduled for September 24, 2026. Supported by Absa, the summit will gather technology leaders and policymakers to discuss how AI and digital transformation are reshaping leadership and careers. The event aims to address workforce readiness, digital inclusion, and the role of Africa in the global digital agenda through mentorship and skills training.
