African players drive record-breaking summer football transfers

The summer transfer window has seen record-breaking activity involving African football players, with several high-profile moves to Europe's top clubs.

Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé set a new record for the most expensive African player in history, joining Real Madrid from RB Leipzig for a deal worth 140 million euros including bonuses. Moroccan talent Ayyoub Bouaddi also secured a major move to Manchester City for 100 million euros following a strong performance at the 2026 World Cup.

Senegalese players have also seen significant movement in the English Premier League. Iliman Ndiaye joined Manchester City for approximately 76 million euros, while Nicolas Jackson moved from Chelsea to Aston Villa for an estimated 65 million pounds. Additionally, 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye transferred from Paris Saint-Germain to Aston Villa for roughly 55 million euros, and El Hadji Malick Diouf joined Brentford for an estimated 40 million pounds.
