African ports report record traffic growth in first half of 2026

Congo Terminal in Pointe-Noire processed close to 700,000 equivalent vessel positions (EVP) during the first half of 2026, putting the facility on track to surpass 1.3 million EVP for the full year and to reach a planned capacity of 2.5 million EVP by 2027. The terminal attributes the surge to improved ship‑scheduling, operational excellence projects and increased regional traffic as neighboring ports experience congestion.

The Port of Casablanca handled 17 million tonnes of cargo in the same period, a 7 % rise over the previous year. Container throughput reached 762,557 EVP, up 5 %, while bulk imports and livestock feed rose 13 % and 33 % respectively. Despite extreme weather and a February maritime incident, the Moroccan authority reports that operations returned to normal with maintained ISO 14001 environmental certification.
