African providers launch local cloud and AI infrastructure

African technology providers are expanding local cloud and AI infrastructure to address data sovereignty and regulatory compliance needs.

Angola Cables has launched Clouds2Africa, a pan-African cloud platform built on its submarine cable network and data center infrastructure, including AngoNAP Luanda. The service aims to provide an alternative to global hyperscalers by keeping African data within the continent and routing traffic through African-controlled infrastructure.

In a separate development, Open Access Data Centres (OADC) and AI Analytics Intelligence have partnered to offer a “NeoCloud” solution. This service provides locally hosted high-performance computing and AI Processing Units designed for African enterprises. The partnership specifically targets regulated industries, such as financial institutions, that must comply with tightening local data residency requirements and emerging AI regulations in countries like Nigeria and South Africa.
