African sports sector sees infrastructure and investment growth

The African sports market is seeing increased strategic interest and infrastructure development. Helios Investment Partners is targeting the sector's value chain, including NBA Africa and PFL Africa, to address funding gaps in areas such as training centers, audiovisual production, and rights management. Projections suggest the African sports market could exceed $12 billion and potentially reach over $20 billion by 2035.

In tandem with broader investment trends, the Basketball Africa League (BAL)—a joint venture between the NBA and FIBA—is executing an infrastructure program to renovate courts across the continent. As part of a decade-long initiative by NBA Africa to build or renovate 1,000 courts, the BAL has announced the renovation of six sites, including four in Senegal (Saint-Louis, Joal, Dakar, and Guédiawaye) and one in Côte d'Ivoire (Abidjan).

Specific projects include the BAL4HER initiative in Guédiawaye, designed to promote sports for women and girls through a multi-purpose complex. These developments aim to foster local talent and create sustainable economic ecosystems within the African sports industry.
