African Summits Stress Human‑Centric Leadership to Boost Economic Growth

At the Global Conference on Human Resources in Africa (GCHRA) in Ghana, co‑founder and executive director of operations David Wilson warned that the continent’s talent pool is abundant but misaligned with modern economic needs. He urged African organisations to invest deliberately in leadership development, workforce agility and workplace culture, noting that “everybody says talent is difficult to find in Africa, but it’s not … it’s an abundance of talent. It’s just that the talent is misaligned.” Wilson highlighted the opportunity for African economies to leapfrog legacy technologies and said the conference, scheduled for 12‑14 August, would focus on AI, leadership and organisational agility.

Meanwhile, the World Public Summit in Addis Ababa brought together experts from Africa, Europe and Asia who argued that long‑term prosperity depends on people‑centred, ethical leadership. Speakers emphasized the need to invest in education, health, youth development and women’s empowerment, and invoked the African philosophy of Ubuntu – “I am because we are” – as a framework for inclusive governance. They stressed that without such leadership, infrastructure and technological advances would have limited impact, and highlighted Africa’s young, growing population as a key demographic advantage.
