African Swine Fever detected in Pomeranian pig farm

African Swine Fever (ASF) has been detected in a farm located in Ruszcze, within the Główczyce municipality of the Słupsk district in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. This marks the first confirmed case of ASF in pigs in the Pomeranian region for 2026 and the seventh such outbreak in Poland this year.

Following the detection, authorities culled the affected herd of 18 pigs and secured materials such as manure, feed, and bedding that may have been in contact with the virus. The farm is undergoing cleaning and disinfection processes. To prevent further spread, a local crisis management team has been established, coordinating efforts between sanitary inspections, foresters, hunters, and local government.

Restrictions have been implemented in the municipality, including the placement of specialized disinfection mats on municipal roads to sanitize vehicle wheels. While officials emphasize that the virus does not pose a threat to human health, they warn of significant economic risks to the agricultural sector. This outbreak follows previous cases in the West Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian voivodeships.
